If you are considering NLP or hypnotherapy for a phobia or allergy, you probably have questions. Here are the ones Martin hears most often – answered clearly and directly.
How many sessions are typically needed to treat a phobia? #
For most specific phobias – spiders, heights, flying, needles, dogs, vomiting – one to three sessions is the norm. The NLP Fast Phobia Cure in particular is designed to produce significant relief in a single session. Hypnotherapy for more complex or longstanding phobias may take a little longer, especially where the fear is layered with past experiences or general anxiety. Martin will give you a realistic estimate after your initial conversation.
Is the change permanent, or does the phobia return? #
For most clients the change is lasting. NLP and hypnotherapy work at the level where the phobia was created – the unconscious mind – rather than simply teaching you to manage or tolerate the trigger. When the underlying pattern is resolved, there is nothing left to maintain the fear. That said, if new stressful experiences reactivate similar themes, a top-up session can address this quickly.
Can anyone be treated, regardless of how long they have had the phobia? #
Yes. The duration of a phobia does not determine whether it can be resolved. Martin has worked with clients who have had phobias for decades with the same results as those who developed them recently. What matters is not how long the pattern has been there but how willing the client is to change it.
What if I am sceptical – does that affect whether it works? #
Scepticism is not a barrier. You do not need to believe in NLP or hypnotherapy for the techniques to be effective. What is required is a genuine willingness to engage with the process and an openness to change. Many of Martin’s most successful clients came in doubtful and left surprised. Curiosity is far more useful than belief.
Does NLP or hypnotherapy work online as well as in person? #
Yes. Martin works with clients worldwide via video call with results that are consistent with in-person sessions. The hypnotic state and the NLP techniques used do not require physical proximity – what matters is the quality of the therapeutic relationship and the client’s ability to relax and focus, both of which translate well online.
How does allergy treatment with NLP and hypnotherapy differ from medication? #
Medication manages allergy symptoms by suppressing the body’s immune response at a biochemical level. It works while you take it and stops working when you stop. NLP and hypnotherapy approach allergies differently: the goal is to retrain the unconscious mind’s identification of the allergen as a threat, so the immune overreaction is no longer triggered in the first place.
This is not a replacement for medical treatment, particularly for severe or anaphylactic allergies where medication is essential for safety. For milder seasonal and environmental allergies, however, NLP-based allergy work can produce meaningful, lasting reductions in reactivity that medication alone cannot achieve.
